Official JLPT N5

A description of basic reading and listening ability

N5 is the easiest of the five official JLPT levels. Its official description covers understanding some basic Japanese through reading and listening, supported by language knowledge.

Kotoba Street

A practical companion with four editorial lesson jobs

The phrase, situation, and essential-communication lessons here support real-life use. Their inclusion does not mean that each situation, phrase, word, or form is tested at N5.

For the test itself, use the official level summary, test sections and item types, FAQ, and sample questions. The JLPT does not publish a comprehensive fixed vocabulary, kanji, and grammar list for the current test.
