At a Japanese hotel desk, complete the reservation check before asking a separate question. Say 予約してありますよやくして あります, show the confirmation, and give the exact booking name. Wait for hotel staff to confirm the record and hand over the key and room information. Then ask one facility or room question. A key shows that this check-in handoff happened; it does not show whether Wi-Fi, luggage storage, breakfast, or a room change is available. The staff’s current reply decides what happens next.

This lesson owns lodging-desk reservation verification and one property-specific question. Airline procedures belong to Japanese airport check-in phrases, convenience-store choices belong to the convenience-store checkout lesson, and immediate hazards belong to Japanese emergency phrases.

The Play controls in this lesson rely on your browser or device voice; that output is not a human-reviewed recording. Available voices and pronunciation differ by system. Use the written readings as your reference, and remember that the changed Japanese still awaits qualified review.

The record must be matched before the next question

A small hotel front desk and lobby
  1. Maya arrives at a modest hotel desk with one suitcase and an open blank booking card while the unnamed receptionist keeps the key-card sleeve on the staff side.

Tired before a scheduled call but already prepared, Maya reaches the desk with her confirmation open and the key still on the receptionist's side.

    Maya

    チェックインをお願いします。予約してあります。チェックインを おねがいします。よやくして あります

I'd like to check in. I have a reservation.

  2. At the hotel desk, Maya points to the blank name field while the same receptionist checks a privacy-safe record and keeps the key-card sleeve on the staff side.

The same unnamed receptionist asks for the booking name and checks the hotel's record while Maya points to the exact blank name field.

    Hotel staff

    お名前をお願いします。おなまえを おねがいします

    Your name, please.

  3. Maya gives the exact booking name as the same receptionist hands over one key-card sleeve and a blank room-information card after the record check.

Maya gives the exact booking name. After the record matches, the receptionist moves the key-card sleeve and room-information card to Maya's side.

    Maya

    マヤ・リーです。

    Maya Lee.

  4. Away from the desk, Maya holds the key-card sleeve, asks about Wi-Fi at a lobby information point, and turns toward the lounge after the same receptionist indicates a blank picture card.

At a distinct lobby information point, Maya asks one Wi-Fi question. The receptionist indicates the current instruction, and Maya turns toward the lounge for her scheduled call.

    Maya

    Wi-Fiは使えますか。ワイファイは つかえますか

    Can I use Wi-Fi?

Dialogue remains selectable HTML. The illustrations contain no dependable generated text.

Maya does not treat her booking card as proof that the hotel has found the reservation. She gives the exact name and waits for the receptionist’s confirmation and handoff. Only after that state changes does she ask about Wi-Fi. The key settles the room handoff, while the separate answer settles where she can make her call.

Start with the reservation

At the front desk, チェックインをお願いしますチェックインを おねがいします states your purpose. Follow with the reservation sentence and keep the confirmation ready instead of giving the whole travel story.

Opening check-in
JapaneseRomajiMeaningUse
chekkuin o onegai shimasuI'd like to check inState the purpose
yoyaku shite arimasuI have a reservationState that a booking exists
sanpaku desuThree nightsConfirm the length of stay
nimei desuTwo guestsConfirm the number of guests

Have the booking name, confirmation number, dates, booking channel, and requested identification ready. Requirements differ by property and traveler status, so follow the current hotel’s instructions rather than assuming that one practice script completes every check-in.

Give the exact booking name and wait for confirmation

The reservation may use a family name, full name, or another spelling. Give the exact name shown on the booking and point to the same field. Your confirmation is evidence for the search; hotel staff still owns the record match and room handoff.

Reservation verification and handoff
JapaneseRomajiMeaningUse
Maya Rī no namae de yoyaku shite imasuI have a reservation under the name Maya LeeGive the exact booking name
yoyaku bangō wa kochira desuHere is the reservation numberShow the confirmation
goyoyaku o kakunin shimashitaI have confirmed your reservationListen for staff confirmation
kochira ga kādo kī desuHere is your key cardRecognize the handoff
oheya wa sangai desuYour room is on the third floorConfirm one room detail

Do not treat check-in as complete just because you showed the screen. Wait for an explicit confirmation and the hotel’s next step. If the booking is not found or a detail is unclear, keep to verifiable information—name spelling, date, booking number, and booking channel—and say もう一度お願いしますもう いちど おねがいします instead of guessing or creating a second booking immediately.

Ask one facility question after check-in

Ask a separate facility question only after the record and room handoff are clear. The reply may name a place, time, password location, unavailable service, or next person to ask.

Facility questions and possible replies
JapaneseRomajiMeaningUse
waifai wa tsukaemasu kaCan I use Wi-Fi?Ask about current availability
chōshoku wa nanji kara desu kaWhat time does breakfast start?Ask the current start time
daiyokujō wa nangai desu kaWhat floor is the public bath on?Ask where a facility is
nimotsu o azukete mo ii desu kaMay I leave my luggage?Ask whether storage is available
robī de tsukaemasuYou can use it in the lobbyOne possible property-specific reply
pasuwādo wa kochira desuThe password is hereFollow the indicated current information
kakunin shimasu node, shōshō omachi kudasaiI will check, so please wait a momentWait for the staff's result

In the practice scene, the reply is ロビーで使えますロビーで つかえます, so Maya moves toward the lounge for her call. That is not a general hotel policy. Confirm the current reply, operating hours, location, fee, and any property rule that affects your request.

Report one room problem

For an ordinary room problem, use [item] が [condition], add the room number separately, and ask for one action. Do not combine several unrelated complaints into the same first sentence.

Room problems and one request
JapaneseRomajiMeaningUse
oyu ga demasenThere is no hot waterReport the current condition
eakon ga ugokimasenThe air conditioner does not workReport an equipment problem
heya no doa ga akimasenThe room door will not openReport an access problem
kakunin shite itadakemasu kaCould you please check?Request one inspection
betsu no heya ni kaete itadakemasu kaCould you move me to another room?Ask for a change; availability is not guaranteed

For an immediate hazard such as smoke, fire, or a medical emergency, stop the language exercise and follow the property’s emergency procedure or emergency services. For an ordinary fault, the staff’s current response—not the example request—determines inspection, repair, or any alternative.

Confirm checkout separately

Checkout, bills, key return, and post-stay luggage storage are later tasks, not part of the opening check-in practice. Confirm one current detail at a time.

Checkout reference phrases
JapaneseRomajiMeaningUse
chekkuauto wa nanji desu kaWhat time is checkout?Confirm the current deadline
chekkuauto o onegai shimasuI'd like to check outStart checkout
tsuika ryōkin wa arimasu kaAre there additional charges?Ask about one unclear charge
nimotsu o gogo made azukeraremasu kaCan you hold my luggage until the afternoon?Ask about post-checkout storage

Return physical keys or cards as instructed and review the current bill before paying. Late checkout, luggage storage, charges, and pickup procedures vary by property; ask rather than infer them from the check-in handoff.

Check in and solve one hotel need

  • Lead with the reservation and exact booking name.
  • Wait for the hotel to match its record and complete the key and room-information handoff.
  • Treat a facility question or a room problem as one separate branch after check-in.
  • Use the staff’s current reply, not the key or a picture card, to choose the next action.
  • Keep checkout, bills, key return, and luggage pickup as later confirmations.

In this scene, Maya arrives with a confirmation, but the hotel has not yet matched it to its record. Staff checks the exact booking name, then gives her the key and confirms the room information. That handoff completes this check-in, but it does not prove that Wi-Fi or another facility is available. Maya asks one separate question, follows the hotel’s current reply, and leaves for her scheduled call.

Next, learn how to describe one symptom, body location, and duration, then confirm medicine timing.

Try the real-world task

Move from an unverified reservation to a confirmed room handoff, then ask one separate hotel question.

Ready means:

  • I can state that I have a reservation and give the exact booking name.
  • I can wait for and recognize the staff's confirmation before treating check-in as complete.
  • I can ask one facility or room question and follow the current reply.
