Inspect before the handoff

Kotoba Street dry cleaner
  1. Maya offers one navy coat across the dry-cleaner counter before identifying its small stain or loose button.

Maya hands over a coat without mentioning a loose button or stain.

    Maya

    クリーニングをお願いします。

    Dry cleaning, please.

  2. The employee inspects the same coat and points between its small stain and loose button while Maya considers the question.

The staff member notices a visible mark and asks whether that is the stain Maya wants handled.

    Staff

    このしみですか。

    Is this the stain?

  3. Maya points precisely to the stain as the employee records both the stain and loose-button pictograms on one intake card.

Maya points to the stain and adds that the button is also loose before the receipt is finalized.

    Maya

    はい。ボタンも緩んでいます。

Yes. The button is also loose.

  4. Maya reviews abstract price and Friday-afternoon collection pictograms and keeps a separate blank claim ticket; the coat remains behind the counter.

She repeats the price and collection date and keeps the ticket.

    Maya

    金曜日の午後、千二百円ですね。

    Friday afternoon, 1,200 yen, right?

At pickup, compare item count, stain area, buttons, decorations, and the service receipt before leaving. If something differs, state the visible issue and ask staff to check the intake record.

Handle a delayed or changed collection

If the garment is not ready, distinguish まだ仕上がっていません (“It is not finished yet”) from 受け取り日が変わりました (“The collection date changed”). Ask 新しい受け取り日はいつですか and have staff write it on the ticket. Do not leave the original ticket behind unless staff exchange it for another record.

At collection, match the claim number, garment type, color, and identifying details before accepting the item. If another person will collect it, ask in advance what ticket, identification, or authorization the shop requires. The transaction is complete only when the correct garment and any accessories are returned and the final charge matches the receipt.

Leave the garment with a clear collection plan

  • Inspect pockets, labels, stains, and damage before handoff.
  • Understand the proposed treatment and its limits.
  • Confirm total price and expected finish date.
  • Keep the ticket and inspect the item at pickup.

Compare two services that require precise handoff details

A salon confirms the requested result before work begins; a return counter confirms the condition and remedy after a problem. Compare those timelines with the cleaner’s stain, service, date, and collection handoff.
