Leo and Maya reached Kotoba Station expecting the usual connection home. Leo’s saved route still showed the familiar train, but the live departure board had changed. The announcement repeated one phrase he had practiced: 運転を見合わせています.
His first impulse was to wait where he always waited. Maya was catching a different service and had only a few minutes, so she asked one question instead of taking over: “What do you know from the live board?”
“The train is not running now,” Leo said. He showed Central Station on his phone and asked a staff member for one next action.

The last bus change

The live board and announcement show that Leo's usual train is currently suspended.
Station announcement運転を見合わせています。
Service is currently suspended.

Leo shows the written destination and asks station staff for one available alternative.
Leo別の行き方はありますか。
Is there another way to go?

At the bus terminal, he stays outside the bus and confirms the destination with the driver.
Leoこのバスは中央駅に行きますか。
Does this bus go to Chuo Station?

The driver names the fictional transfer stop, and Leo repeats it before deciding to board.
Leo市役所前で乗り換えですね。
Transfer at Shiyakusho-mae, right?

The driver nodded. Leo checked the live destination display, saved the transfer stop in his notes, and only then stepped aboard. Maya raised one hand from the other side of the terminal before leaving for her own platform.
The route was unfamiliar. The pattern was not: current state, destination, reply, confirmation, action.
The route changes, but Leo keeps the decision
Leo reuses three completed lesson skills: he recognizes suspended service, asks for one alternative, and treats the bus question as incomplete until he understands the transfer reply. Maya gives him a bounded prompt; she does not select the bus, interpret every announcement, or become responsible for his arrival.
The station, destination, transfer stop, and route in this story are fictional. For a real disruption, use the actual operator’s current status, staff guidance, fare rules, and last-service information. The Japan National Tourism Organization’s rail guide likewise directs travelers to each operator for up-to-the-minute cancellations and delays; a saved route or this story cannot replace that live information.
